Meet Lupita
Meet Lupita! This beautiful, exotic beauty found herself on the euthanasia list in 2014 at the BARC shelter in Houston, Texas.
Not only was she to be euthanized, so were her 4 kittens. A local volunteer was horrified and reached out to us. Lupita was terrified of people and deemed unadoptable. Kittens in Houston are a dime a dozen, and it wasn't worth the shelter letting them live long enough to be adopted out, and their foster program was non-existent.
So we took her in...she rode terrified up to Colorado in the huge van of barking dogs, but managed to carefully protect and nurse her baby kittens the entire way. Just a week old... they lived due to Lupita's diligent care.
Snuggled into her foster home, the babies thrived and Lupita learned to trust her caregiver. At ten weeks old, the kittens found amazing homes in pairs and went on to be loved family members... while Lupita languished on Petfinder. First it was weeks, then months upon months on Petfinder with no interest.
A black cat, fearful of strangers... this was a hard sell. Eventually her foster dad said he would just keep her as long as he lived in his mountain cabin - and she could spend her days lying in the sun and catching crickets.
Now - 9 years later, he is moving to a place that would not be conducive to Lupita, and we are once again looking for a home for this sweet but incredibly shy kitty.
Lupita (now 11 years old) will need a very patient, kind person who will let her know she is safe before expecting any contact with her. Once she feels safe (which could take weeks if not months), she will purr under your covers and make biscuits on you while you sleep. She is a total love bug!
Email us for more information - no kids and ideally no dogs or only a very mellow dog.
