Summit Dog Rescue, Boulder, Colorado is a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue dedicated to a mindful, holistic approach to rescuing great dogs (and an occasional lucky kitty) and adopting them into exceptional fur-ever homes. Our goal is not to do high volume dogs adoptions, but rather to rescue great dogs and find them incredibly well matched, loving, committed forever homes.
We know our process is long, but a one month process (more or less) doesn't seem long in our minds when you are making a lifetime commitment to a new family member.
- We also do not have the volunteer capacity to process everyone who applies, even though we so appreciate that they want to adopt, not every applicant is a good fit for one of our dogs. Go to FAQ page for more info /faqs1.html and that way you won't be surprised by how our adoption process works.
- We are not just any dog rescue. Our Director is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, and graduated from Karen Pryor Academy (CPDT - KA, KPA - CTP). We have a stringent approval process and a team of adoption coordinators who place our dogs. We don't believe in adopting lots of dogs into mediocre homes - and rather focus on careful, successful placements with LOTS of support for our adopters and dogs.
Our adoption fee is $465 (unless otherwise stated). All our dogs are vetted - i.e. spayed/neutered, vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPP, microchipped and heartworm tested. Our dogs that come from Arkansas or Texas (high hw areas) are adopted with the remainder of their heartworm preventative. And your dog will come with a Freedom Harness and leash. (Why a harness? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usJEyq10Mzg ) . Unless stated otherwise, you will be required to sign up with an SDR approved trainer and show proof of classes/private lessons, before your adoption contract is drawn up.
We are now doing monthly complimentary dog training classes for all SDR adopters - so that is a priceless perk when adopting from SDR.
