Meet Remy!
This sweet and adorable little mini Australian Shepherd/Papillon mix is a super sweet, gentle boy who needs a patient, loving and calm home in order to live his best life!
Remy is 13 lbs. of cuteness. He's got a gentle soul but we suspect his life before coming to rescue was not so great... He's easily startled by quick hand movements and he lacks confidence around new people, but once he trusts you he'll melt your heart. He'll need a special adopter to go slowly and help him feel safe.
We think he'd love a quieter house, maybe with a dog or dog-savvy kitty who can hang out with him and help him learn that life is good, and that no one is going to hurt him ever again, nor will anyone force him to do anything. He doesn't like being picked up, and he doesn't feel comfortable at the veterinarian yet. This will take time, commitment and giving him confidence (please Google "cooperative care" to learn more).
Once he feels safe with you, he's learning to love being petted... slowly, checking in with him to make sure he still is enjoying it (so far, he has always opted for more petting!).
All that being said, despite being low in confidence around strangers, Remy loves being outside and going on sniff walks and exploring trails.
We're saying No Kids for this sweet little guy due to his shyness and lack of desire to be excessively handled without consent, and his adopters need to have a fenced yard to keep him safe.
He currently lives with a teenager, a young adult, an adult, 2 dogs and a cat! They let him take space when needed, but as he settles in, Remy is often playful and affectionate with all household members.
Applicants will need to work with our behavior team to learn how to work with him and help him gain confidence (his human needs to be very open to learning!).
Remy has just been with us 2 weeks as of today (7/28) and he is not neutered yet. We're working with him on feeling comfortable being handled before we'll do the neuter -- so his neuter is on hold for now, but will be included in his adoption if it's not done before we find his forever person.
For more info and/or to apply to adopt Remy, send an email to us at SummitDogRescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you as soon as they can. Thanks.
