Meet Maisie - looking for active, quiet home
Meet Maisie!
She's an approximately 18-month-old Poodle mix (either with Wheaten or Shih Tzu). She's healthy and up to date on her doggie shots, and at 22 lbs. she's cute as a bug! She did test positive for heartworm, but has started treatment.
Maisie spent the first year of her life as a breeder in a puppymill. A puppymill rescue is not for all people: these dogs take a little more time, gentleness and patience. Maisie warms up to new people with just a little time and understanding, and she will make you smile with her silly antics with toys!
Maisie is a super sweet girl who deserves to find her forever home with people who'll love her and understand that she's a rescue girl with a sad beginning. But she's also joyful and loving -- she just needs the right home.
She loves to play and loves toys and is an active girl. She'll pull on the leash a bit but she totally loves going out for walks. She barks at other dogs when she's out on walks or if they pass by her yard, so she'll need someone who can work with a force-free trainer on this -- OR someone who lives in a more rural environment.
Maisie gets along with kitties and most other dogs, although some cats may not appreciate her enthusiasm. She currently lives with a male Chihuahua -- they're good friends and play a lot throughout the day.
Because of her fluffy coat she'll need regular grooming. Because she is fearful, she needs to take anti-anxiety meds prior to being groomed.
Maisie is a great jumper! For that reason she needs to go to a home with a fenced yard that is a minimum 5 feet high. She currently jumps the HOA fence of 3 feet in her foster home to go look for adventures.
A confident resident dog would be great for Maisie, as she loves to play and snuggle with the Chihuahua she lives with.
Maisie is working on her housetraining, and would benefit from a dog-savvy, patient foster or adopter who can help her solidify her housetraining skills and work on basic good canine behavior.
Maisie prefers women and does take a little time to warm up to men. No kids, please, since she's a bit timid. She will growl at strangers who invade her personal space, especially men.
Strong preference given to Boulder area applicants because SDR has several certified professional trainers in our team, and we like to do direct support of our adopters.
For more info and/or to apply to adopt Maisie, send an email of inquiry to [email protected], telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you as soon as they can. Thanks.
