Meet Foxy Bear - adopted
UPDATE FROM SUMMIT DOG RESCUE: We are getting lots of inquiries for Foxy. Preference is being given to Boulder County area and to a home with a friendly, confident dog to be a mentor for Foxy. In addition a fenced yard is almost certainly a must (rare exception made here). Thanks for your interest!!! Also, no condos, townhomes, apartments.

Hello, My name is FOXY... not only do I look like a fox, I'm quick and smart like one, too. My foster dad calls me Foxy Bear as I zoom around my yard! I am only 30 lbs, which is a perfect size for a Colorado dog. I am looking for a gentle and kind person to show me the wonderful life I deserve.
I love playing with my foster brother who is twice as big as me. I would do better in a home with a resident dog like him to show me the way! In fact, I think it is a must.
I also love food! I'll do almost anything for a food reward. My foster dad has taught me to sit, shake, and touch his hand already. I'm starting to learn about a "clicker"... I know it means I did something good and a tasty treat is coming.
My favorite place to hang out is on the big bed. I've slept there with my new family every night since I arrived, and I like to nap there when we're not busy. If I'm bored and want some attention, I go into my foster dad's office and give him a gentle nudge with my nose. If I sit nice with my tail wagging, I usually get some pets and sometimes even a treat.
I also like to hang out in the yard when it is nice outside. Usually, I just nap in the grass or watch whatever is going on. My yard has to have a pretty good fence.
I am a little slow to warm up to new people when we first meet, but if you give me time I quickly am your friend, too! *Foxy is not a brew pub dog, nor will she be a farmer's market girl if they ever start back up again. She needs a more quiet home with a loving person.
I'm also friends with every dog I've met so far. My big foster brother is fun, and we greet a bunch of neighbor dogs hanging out in their yards when we go for walks. But, squirrels are absolutely fun to chase! And rabbits too! So, be assured that I'll keep them away from you and our home.
I really like my coat... it gives me a nice warm hug when it is cold outside.
Speaking of rough life, it turns out I came down with something called "heartworm" while at the shelter this summer. It doesn't really bother me and it isn't catchy for other dogs this time of year, but everybody says it is bad so we are trying to fix it. Right now, I get an extra treat every morning and evening. My foster dad calls it "medicine", but it tastes like turkey to me and I gobble it up. In a month or so, I have to get a few "shots" to finish off the heartworm. Maybe those will taste like chicken or beef or something maybe even better.
Here are some details about me according to SDR: I'm a 1-1/2 year old Shepherd/Sheltie mix female born 5-1-2019. I'm spayed, microchipped, housetrained and up to date on my doggie shots. I'm on heartworm treatment and soon I'll be good as new..
I’m working with a wonderful behavior consultant named Elisheba Fey! I really like her and we are doing great! Included in my adoption fee is a couple of sessions with Elisheba, to continue what we are learning! https://www.artandscience.dog/
For more info and/or to apply to adopt me, go to the top toolbar, click Adopt, click Dog Application; then fill it out and send it in. A nice volunteer from SDR will get back to you as soon as they can.
