Meet Dakota!
This 5-year-old girl is a doll! She loves her people and was a volunteer favorite when at the impound. Dakota is spayed, up to date on her doggie shots, and is good with kids, other dogs and even horses!
A wonderful foster person in Nebraska took Dakota home so she is loving life in a foster home currently.
Dakota successfully lives with other dogs and adores them. Her ideal home would have dog friends. But she also loooves her humans. She goes to the barn regularly with her foster mom and mostly ignores cats, but will chase if one runs. She is great off leash and doesn't go far, and comes when called. She snuggles and follows her foster mom all over.
SDR will provide support and resources for her anxiety when she's left alone. Dakota does have some confinement anxiety and needs access to a yard (via a doggy door hopefully) when alone. But her foster mom successfully leaves her for quite some time with her dog friends and she has settled in (as long as she has that yard).
Is your heart as big as Dakota's?
From the volunteer in Nebraska:
“Dakota was abandoned at the shelter. She was in a car accident, and as her owner was transported to the hospital Dakota was transported to the shelter to be careful. When the owner was released from the hospital we contacted them. They indicated they would be back May 24 to pick her up because they love her so much. We have not seen or heard from them again although we’ve made attempts to reach out to them a second time.
"Dakota is a pretty laid-back dog who prefers the company of humans, although she lives with another dog in her foster home. She enjoys walking, playing a little bit of fetch, and just really loves hanging out with her people. We noticed while at the shelter she was chewing up some stuff, but we attributed it to a lot of shelter stress since it was a very long first day there. We were blessed by a community person who offered to foster her. Dakota is so good but lately has started chewing again when her foster had to leave, since she’s bonded with her foster and misses her when she is gone.
"Dakota is about 8 years old and is most likely a Cattle Dog breed of some sort. A previous scar indicates she probably is spayed. She's current on her vaccinations although she will probably need to update her boosters as we don't know her vet history prior to this. She's a very sweet temperament dog who also does well with kids.”
For more info and/or to apply to foster or adopt Dakota, fill out a Dog Application and send it in. A volunteer will get back to you as soon as they can.
