Adjustment Period -- please read before applying to adopt from us
Dogs are not robots! We have a lot of information on this website about basic training and what to expect when you adopt. We highly recommend you read "Love at Any Age" by Patricia McConnell before bringing home your new family member. Even if you have rescued a dog before, she has priceless advice about everything from how to plan the ride home to the first hours in your home... to the first month.
Great info about bringing your dog home, and "trigger stacking" - where you push your dog over the edge by over exposing them: woofliketomeet.com/2016/03/trigger-stacking-how-we-set-our-dogs-up-to-fail/
Also please read this great article about some of the pitfalls that people have when adopting - we highly urge you to read it now so you can determine for yourself realistically if you have the time, energy and commitment level right now to bring a dog into your home. The hardest time with your dog will be the adjustment period when you adopt. So please read! http://www.dogsoutloud.org/2012/10/i-need-to-return-this-dog/
