Meet Sherpa - courtesy post

Sherpa is a 1-1/2-year-old Husky mix girl needing a new home due to a new baby arriving in the family. She's housetrained, spayed, and up to date on her doggie shots.

Sherpa is an adorable, sweet, smart girl! Born approximately October 2019 in Indiana, she was adopted  in January 2020 in Indianapolis from a shelter.

She is a terrific adventure buddy. She has amazing running endurance, and has easily run several 10Ks already. She would love to find a running or hiking buddy! She's good with other dogs.

She loves hiking and enjoying all the smells, playing around in the snow, going for long walks, exploring rivers, etc. The more time outside the better!

She loves trails and makes for a great hiking buddy. Her folks have even taken her car camping, and she slept nicely inside their tent - she could likely make for a great backpacking companion!

Sherpa loves people. She is such a joy to play with, and loves meeting new people. She even loves going to the vet because everyone there treats her like the princess she is!

She is happy to hang out at home. Despite being a high-energy dog, she is pretty happy to snooze on her dog bed or at your feet for most of the day. Don’t expect her to snooze all day though - she needs daily stimulation and exercise! She is good about being left at home alone, and is not very destructive.

Sherpa is a very sweet dog. If you leave her alone at home for a bit, prepare for the warmest welcome when you return! Her greeting is just about the best way to come home. When she is allowed on furniture, she is very happy to jump up and snuggle on the couch or bed. You can go for a nap and she will hop on the bed and curl up right beside you.

Training: Sherpa attended puppy classes (until the pandemic began), 5 weeks of puppy school, and several individual sessions over the summer. She has been working with Jessie Harris at Training Wheels LLC for the past 5 weeks. Sherpa knows some basic commands (Sit, Down), targeting, and is working on Come. She sleeps very well in a crate and is learning how to use a crate during the daytime.

She has only met kids a couple times in the past, and they seemed to make her a little nervous, so probably no homes with small kids would be better.

Ideal Home:
.  Active household - someone to take her on  runs, hikes, etc.
.  Fenced yard and someone who is committed to working with her as she matures into an adult dog.

For more info contact Sherpa's foster dad:  Nick LaFarge - contact SDR for his contact info.
