Meet Loki - courtesy post
Meet Loki! He's looking for a great forever home as his current people have health problems and can't take care of him. His rescuers are now stepping in to find good adopters for him. Here's what they say:
"Loki is a 2-1/2-year-old Karelian Bear Dog (KBD) who needs a new home. He is not ours, but we have a great deal of experience with KBDs, so are helping to find the perfect home for him. He's a 58 lb. neutered male.
"KBDs are rare (in the US) and amazing dogs but need the right home – with plenty of open space, purpose, exercise, and a patient loving family. They are considered alert and protect dogs and are used by park rangers in the Northern US and Canada to alert and protect against brown bears. KBDs are highly intelligent, which comes with challenges – ours can open our trash and comes when called unless he’s busy doing something else 😊. They have a high prey instinct and will unstack wood to hunt rodents and keep the squirrels at bay.
"He currently lives on an 11-acre fenced property and is fairly well trained for a Karelian, including recall.
"Karelians are extremely loyal to their family and every KBD I know sees no reason that they can’t be on the couch or bed just like the rest of the family."

If you're interested in adopting Loki, send an email of inquiry to SummitDogRescue@yahoo.com, telling us a bit about yourself and your lifestyle, and especially why you want to adopt a Karelian Bear Dog --and your experience with one. These are special dogs needing special handling. Thanks.
