Meet Deke - courtesy post

Deke is a five-year-old shepherd mix with lots of love to give! His specific breeds are Australian Shepherd, American Staffordshire Terrier, Border Collie, Doberman Pinscher, Labrador Retriever, and Shiba Inu (according the the Wisdom Panel 2.5 DNA test).

Deke is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines and rabies. He is a nice medium size at about 60 lbs. He is house-trained, food-motivated, and generally obedient. He knows how to sit, lie down, stay, come, be gentle, and speak. He is vocal, but does not bark incessantly.

Deke is an indoor dog, but loves to play outside and enjoys long walks and hikes. He does well off leash, but tends to pull when he is on leash - he's just so excited! This sweet boy is incredibly loyal, but he may need a bit of time to warm up to new people. Once adjusted, Deke loves and needs lots of attention. Belly rubs are a must, though he is sensitive about his ears and tail.

Deke is good with other dogs and does not mind cats, but he needs time to warm up to both. Once he is comfortable, he enjoys playing and roughhousing. Tennis balls, antlers, and silicone toys are his favorite. Deke is not crate trained and does well free-roaming in a home. However, if ignored or not well exercised, Deke can be destructive. He sleeps on a dog bed or couch at night, though he would love to snuggle in bed if allowed! Deke is nervous about visiting the vet and has needed a muzzle in the past.

Most importantly, Deke needs to be in a home where there are NO children. He is incredibly stressed and anxious around children and can be aggressive toward small children (lunging, growling, and nipping). Deke has lived his whole life with the same family and they would be happy to provide additional information or answer any questions. Deke is a sweet, energetic boy who would do well in a calm, loving home with an attentive companion. Please consider adopting Deke!
