Meet Bodhi - courtesy post
Meet Bodhi! This big boy has big feelings to match.
He is a beautiful 3 y/o (just this month) healthy, neutered, natural ears, mantle-marked European Dane who is close to 200 lb. He is good with people, and can get a bit overexcited when meeting new people. Also, due to his size he should not live with younger children.
He needs a home with no other dogs or cats where he can be the only doted-on pet, or he could maybe live with another large dog who has lots of patience and doggy wisdom to teach Bodhi. He is a true "velcro Dane" and is an indoor dog -- he will want to be in whatever room his person is in, and sleep in the same room as well.
Because he's such a big dog with a short coat and little fat, he loves being warm (maybe with a winter sweater), and this means he loves being an indoor dog. He gets the zoomies on occasion, so a larger yard would be great for him to run it out. But the zoomies don't last long, and he's back to being a couch potato 90% of the time.
Bodhi will need a home with a tall fence, but he's not a jumper or escape artist. He does not guard food or toys, and while he's not much of a treat guy he does love Greenies and cheese, and will take them gently in his giant mouth.
Bodhi is very smart and quick to learn -- he knows Sit, Down, Come, Outside Toy (will run outside with his toy if he's getting rowdy), Go Potty, Treat, and Leave It (depending on what 'it' is!). But he has some anxiety/reactivity with other dogs and doesn't always comply with behavior cues if they're around.
He generally walks well on a leash but if he sees a dog he will jump around (more up and down than lunging toward the dog) or will try to go for bunnies, squirrels, etc. so it definitely takes a strong person to walk him.
With a 20-minute walk he acts like he conquered Everest, and will pass out for the rest of the day (which is not to say that he doesn't enjoy hour-long walks as well!). At this time he is not able to go to the dog park or for hikes, due to his dog reactivity, but it may be possible to work with him to allow those activities over time. He is not aggressive, but he is too "much" for other dogs--he is overly excited and pounces on them. He is not a dog to go jogging or biking with -- Danes are not built for that. But he loves a good long walk!
While he can be bouncy, he is also a big love and wants to sit on your lap. He has stuffed toys that he carries around and snuggles, even sometimes kneading on them. Like most Danes he is sensitive and can be a scaredy-cat. He's not afraid of thunder or fireworks, but loud noises will send him running out of the room -- for example, smacking a fly with a magazine. Note that he himself has never been hit with a hand or magazine or anything else, ever! But things like that can scare him. Because of his tendency toward overexcitability with even small stimuli, he is much more suited to being a homebody.
His ideal home would be quiet, have a yard to run in, a physically strong human to give him lots of time and love, no small humans, and preferably no other pets. He will bring his beds, treats, toys, lots of food, bowls, etc.
