Meet Mesa - courtesy post
Hi! I'm Mesa! I'm an amazing 6-year-old Cattle Dog mix --- at least that's everyone's best guess based on my beautiful markings. And I definitely have their trademark smarts 'cuz it doesn't take me long to learn anything.
For instance, I'm a pro at Sit, Wait, Stay, Drop It, Leave It, and Lie Down. My human uses really tasty treats that motivate me, and I love those!
I'm a super sweet and happy girl. In fact my tail rarely stops wagging! I love being outside and patrolling the yard, taking the occasional break to sunbathe on the deck. I could spend hours out there in nice weather. At those times I'm pretty independent and I may check in through the doggie door just to make sure I'm not missing anything, but I don't need to be attached to my human's hip. When I'm inside, though, I like to be nearby just because I like her company. And in the evening when things wind down, that's when I'm especially cuddly.
There's a rumor a lot of dogs don't like to be hugged, but I get tummy scratches during a hug so they're cool with me! I think my person hugs me because I'll just lean on her legs forever and gaze at her while she tickles my ears. I'm too cute not to! And I make sure to let her know if she slacks off on the tickles with a nose nudge.
My human mom is heartbroken that she must look for a new home for me. Her plan was for her to be my forever home so she never imagined anything different. You see, I no longer get along with my doggie housemate. My person has worked with lots of experts but hey, I just can't see my doggie sibling like I used to: as my playmate and friend. So despite making strides in conditioning and impulse control, I'll need to be the only pet in my next home --- no other dogs, cats, rabbits, squirrels, mice, birds... as I have quite the prey drive for a few of those things. After all, they're just too fascinating!
I've never been around children, so the bestest home for me would have no little kids, toddlers or babies. I'm a very active girl, so patience is a must as it takes awhile for me to wind down.
Early in 2016 I tore a ligament in my knee and had surgery to correct it, something called TPLO. Although my new person(s) will need to keep an eye on my other "good" knee, you'd really never know my hurt knee was ever hurt!
If I don't say so myself, I'm a wonderful dog and I know I will thrive in the perfect home and will make a great companion to someone who is willing to take the time to build that forever bond. Are you the one for me, and me for you? Hope so!
